Before you Move Checklist

So you have sold or purchased a home and the big MOVING Day is upon you. Moving can be a stressful time, even for the most organized person. You may be running on empty, getting a little less sleep, and your brain may be on overdrive due to the lists of things to do before the big move.
In order to do everything possible to help your moving process run smoothly, we have compiled a“Don’t forget to…” checklist for you.
Approximately one week before moving, it is a good idea to contact the following utility companies and notify them of the exact date you will be moving into or out of the home. Specify if you would like service put into or taken out of your name. Both the buyer and the seller need to notify the company to confirm the information. In most cases service requests may be made by phone or on the Internet.

• Gas
• Electric
• Telephone
• Cable
• Internet
• Garbage
• Sewer
• Newspaper/Magazine Subscriptions
• Return Library books/movies
• Pick up clothes from Dry Cleaner
• Notify Bank and Credit Cards of New address

Contact the United States Post Office
Approximately one week before moving, please remember to call the United State Post Office (800) 275-8777, or go to www.usps.com to initiate a change of address order. Their moving packet is full of helpful tips and great coupons you can use on things like a moving truck, storage facility and Home Improvement Stores like Home Depot.
